Accessibility

This site should work for the way you read, not just the way it was designed, and it is built to the standards that apply in each country we serve.

Standard

The site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA as a working target. That is the level referenced by the Accessible Canada Act and the Accessible British Columbia Act, by the European Accessibility Act and EN 301 549 in the EU, by the UK Equality Act 2010 guidance, and by the US Department of Justice's ADA Title II rule and Section 508. This is a voluntary statement; Emerald Group is a small private business not directly covered by most of these statutes.

What has been done

The layout reflows to any screen width without horizontal scrolling, text sits on backgrounds chosen for contrast, controls are large enough to hit comfortably, all navigation works from the keyboard, images that carry meaning have text alternatives, and content is written in plain language rather than industry shorthand where a plain word exists.

Motion

Animation on this site is decorative: gentle reveals as sections enter view and a slow sector marquee. Nothing flashes, and no information is conveyed by motion alone, so nothing is lost if animation is disabled in your operating system.

Documents

Estimates and basis-of-estimate documents are produced as structured, searchable files rather than scans, so they can be read with assistive technology. Alternative formats are available on request.

Known gaps

This is a small practice site and it has not been through a formal third-party audit. If something is hard to use, that is worth knowing about.

Tell us

Write to support@emeraldgroup.ca describing what did not work and what you were using. You will hear back within five business days, and fixes are made directly rather than logged and forgotten. If you are not satisfied, you may contact Accessibility Standards Canada, your national enforcement body in the EU, the UK Equality Advisory and Support Service, or the US Department of Justice.
